Yes, Niwot is in the movies!  Well, it will be when the movie comes out!  If you haven’t heard, Niwot has been a buzz all week with filming taking place last Saturday evening and all day Tuesday!   The stars of the movie were around and some lucky folks in Niwot have proof by having their pictures taken with Luke Wilson and/or Jessica Alba!

One block of 2nd Avenue was transported back to the 1960′s and Niwot became the town of Manteca, California for this project.  Filming a movie is not as glamorous as one might think  - lots of equipment, people, props and many retakes of shots.  It’s  hurry up – places everyone – action –  (stop and look at what was just shot… great to have digital cameras -)  and ok, let’s do it again!  That can happen over and over and over again.

Boulder Symphony in collaboration with the Boulder Chorale and the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, present “Celebrations of Spring” on Friday, May 17th at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Boulder.

Our glorious season finale will send plenty of magnificently cool spring energy into the universe, as we feature the fresh and revitalizing Spring Symphony No. 1 of Robert Schumann, possibly his most optimistic and exciting venture into the genre.  We are also joined by the Boulder Chorale and Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church as we play two gorgeous sacred works with more than 300 performers – Bruckner’s Psalm 150 and Haydn’s  Te Deum for the Empress Maria Teresa.  Rounding out the program is the magnificent arrangement of J.S. Bach’s most beloved solo violin work, the Chaconne from the D minor Partita, arranged by Joachim Raff, for the rich and colorful orchestra of the late nineteenth century.

Congratulations to Niwot’s own Dan Hawk and Tammy Hansen!

Dan Hawk, a financial advisor with the financial services firm Edward Jones, and Tammy Hansen, a branch office administrator, in Niwot recently attended an invitation-only recognition in Tempe, Ariz.

The three-day Strive Top 150 is offered to 150 branch teams throughout the country that demonstrated the most significant 12-month growth in meeting investors’ financial needs. Hawk and Hansen were among the 150 branch teams, out of more than 11,000, invited to attend this session.

Local historian and lecturer, Anne Dyni, will present an illustrated program on the settlement of the Left Hand Valley.  Anne has been researching local history and interviewing pioneer families for over twenty years and has written five books on early Boulder County history.  As an active volunteer for the Maria Rogers Oral History Program at Boulder’s Carnegie Library, she has conducted over 150 interviews, which she draws upon for her monthly columns in the Left Hand Valley Courier, and for her books on pioneer schools, early agriculture, and the communities of Niwot and Erie.

  It’s National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day (always) on March 29th!

This holiday was created to honor a business started in Everett, MA – on 3/29/1939!  It was a hat shop called Ruth’s which later developed into a woman’s specialty clothing store and increased in size and revenue (over $2 million) until it closed in 1997.

American Soundscapes ~ Saturday, March 16th  - 7 p.m.  

Boulder Symphony, the Community Orchestra of Boulder County, invites you to “American Soundscapes”, our fifth symphony concert of the season.  The Symphony will perform the World Premiere of Gregory T.S. Walker’s *glitch* for Cyber Guitar and Orchestra, performed by Mr. Walker.  This not-to-be missed show includes Antonin Dvorak’s beloved “From the New World” Symphony No. 9, and the moving Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.   There will be a pre-concert talk hosted by KGNU’s Ron Nadel in the Chapel at 6:15 p.m.
